We are currently seeking experienced Heavy Equipment Operators for our Union project in Cheyenne, WY.
Job Summary
The Heavy Equipment Operator is responsible for safely and efficiently operating heavy machinery to support earthmoving, grading, excavation, and site development activities. Operators will work closely with foremen and other crew members to safely meet project specifications and production goals.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Operate heavy equipment including dozers, scrapers, loaders, motor graders, excavators, articulated trucks, water trucks, and other equipment as assigned.
- Perform earthmoving, grading, excavation, backfilling, compaction, and site preparation.
- Follow supervisor and foreman direction to complete work according to project specifications.
- Complete required pre- and post-operation equipment inspections.
- Perform basic equipment maintenance, including greasing, cleaning, and checking fluids.
- Safely operate around ground personnel, utilities, and other equipment.
- Immediately report mechanical issues, hazards, or safety concerns.
- Read and follow grade stakes, plans, GPS systems, or other project instructions when required.
- Complete required equipment logs, inspection forms, and other documentation.
- Follow all company, Union, project-specific, and applicable safety requirements.
- Assist with other equipment or related duties as needed.
Required Skills and Experience
- Previous experience safely and efficiently operating heavy equipment.
- Minimum of 2 years of heavy equipment operating experience preferred.
- Heavy civil, earthwork, grading, or road construction experience preferred.
- Knowledge of soil conditions, grading, compaction, and general equipment operation.
- Strong situational awareness and commitment to safety.
- Reliable attendance and ability to work effectively as part of a crew.
- Ability to follow instructions and communicate effectively with supervisors and crew members.
Certifications and Licenses
- Valid Driver’s License.
- Ability to complete all required Union, company, and site-specific training.
Work Environment & Physical Requirements
- Outdoor construction work in varying weather and ground conditions.
- Exposure to dust, noise, vibration, moving equipment, and uneven terrain.
- Ability to climb on and off equipment and operate controls for extended periods.
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and perform occasional ground-level tasks.
- Required use of appropriate PPE.
Schedule
- Monday through Friday, typically 10–12-hour shifts, depending on project needs.
- Overtime and occasional weekend work may be required.
Union Project
This position is for a Union construction project in Cheyenne, WY. Wages, benefits, and other applicable terms will be provided in accordance with the governing Union agreement and project requirements.
